Tammy Hawley, Chief, Strategic Communications, joined the Department of Housing & Community Development in 2018. Ms. Hawley comes to the Agency after serving as Press Secretary to Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones for two mayoral terms. The Richmond native has an extensive background in strategic communications, public affairs, community outreach, and project management. She also spent many years in leadership positions on Capitol Hill and served as chief operating officer for the national NAACP. As Chief of Strategic Communications, Ms. Hawley is responsible for all communications initiatives within the agency; building, sustaining and managing the organization’s reputation as seen and understood by the public. Her duties include managing the overall agency’s brand and reputation; driving overall communications strategy development and managing its execution; directing all social media content and maintaining the Agency’s website; and developing, integrating, aligning, and executing offensive and defensive communications strategies. She also serves as the chief spokesperson for the agency. Ms. Hawley earned her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
